Progressing fourth industrial revolution, involving development of cyber physical systems, transform entire industries, creates new business opportunities and challenges. The companies renew their business models in an unprecedent way. We believe that with our efforts we will be able to discover its underlying mechanisms with the benefit for management science, companies and our students.
Thus, our mission is to conduct research on the impact of industry 4.0 on strategic renewal through business model innovation, disseminate this knowledge and facilitate its implementation in business.
Our umbrella research project aims at understanding the approach to and mechanisms of innovation (traditional and/or open) through which firms actively seek ways to transform or substantially upgrade their business models to increase chances of long-term survival and international competitiveness.
We adopt a contingency approach (firms operating in industries of different technological intensity, exposed to different value migration patterns, resulting from the fourth industrial revolution i.e. Industry 4.0, a ‘smart’ industry and of different size) to understand which renewal journeys are most successful in terms of sustainable and profitable growth and why.
